Lance Cpl. Matthew Daily shoots an M252 81mm medium weight mortar system Aug. 13, 2017, in Chitose, Japan, during Northern Viper 2017. Marines with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment and 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion spent the day sharing techniques with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. Northern Viper maintains and strengthens the United States’ influence in the region and the U.S.-Japan Alliance. Daily, an A Gunner with 1/3, is a Crestwood, Kentucky native.
