An Iraqi mortarman of 1st Battalion, 11th Brigade, 3rd Iraqi Army Division, fires an 81 mm mortar round down range during a live-fire exercise at Destiny Range in Ninewa province, Iraq, Jan. 25. U.S. soldiers of 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, supervised the training designed to increase the Iraqi Army mortar crews’ proficiency on skills necessary to support their battalion’s future operations in efforts to modernize the Iraqi Army’s tactical capability.
