U.S. Marines and Members of the South African Maritime Reaction Squadron swap weapons during Exercise Shared Accord

A member of the South African Navy’s Maritime Reaction Squadron (MRS) fires a U.S. M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle during a familiarization fire range as part of Shared Accord 17 (SA17) at South African Army Combat Training Center, Lohatla, South Africa, July 19, 2017. During SA17 members of the MRS and U.S. Marines will form integrated units, building interoperability as they learn each others techniques, tactics, and procedures. SA17 is a Joint bi-lateral Field Training Exercise with our South African partners focused on Peace Keeping Operations designed to exercise participants’ capability and capacity to conduct African Union / United Nations mandated Peace Keeping Operations.
