A Royal Australian Air Force F-35A Lightning II taxis down the runway at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz., July 17, 2017. Luke is the central hub for F-35A training often teaming international and U.S. pilots together to learn how to effectively employ the fifth-generation strike fighter. F-35 basic course students took part in a two and a half week, four flight phase replicating a wartime environment designed to test their training and skills. Today’s flight featured six F-35’s facing off against eight F-16 Fighting Falcons in defensive counter air attack operation measures. The students will be the first ever to graduate from a course designed specifically to utilize the mission set of the F-35. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Caleb Worpel)
