Sgt. Nelson Deese of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry Regiment was among the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Soldiers who evacuated residents from a burning apartment building in downtown L'viv, Ukraine on 16 July. Deese is a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Crowder, Oklahoma.
Soldiers with the Oklahoma Army National Guard’s 45th IBCT are currently deployed to Ukraine in support of the Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine, an international coalition dedicated to building the training capacity of the Ukrainian army.
