Lance Cpl. Clancy Cheek, an infantryman with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment places the dog tags of 1st Lt. William Donnelly on his memorial stand during a ceremony here, Dec. 24. Donnelly, born in Frederick, Md., graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. in 2008. “He pushed his men hard to make sure they were ready for combat,” said Lt. Col. Jason Morris, commanding officer of 3rd Bn., 5th Marines. “But, he was also a reassuring presence for his men on the battlefield.”
