A crashed or heavily damaged white helicopter is resting on a rocky, arid hillside. The aircraft appears to be a Soviet/Russian-designed Mi-8 or similar utility helicopter, with its fuselage severely damaged and rotor blades bent or displaced. The registration markings beginning with 'EX-' suggest Kyrgyzstan registration.

An abandoned helicopter is packed with left-over munitions and mortar rounds in preparation to be blown in place at Combat Outpost Spera in Khowst province, Dec. 23, as part of COP closure operations. The civilian helicopter, which crashed on the landing zone several years earlier, was destroyed in part by using munitions stored at the COP that could not be returned to U.S. Army stockpiles.
