A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules carrying Maj. Gen. Charles Lyon, deputy commander-Air of U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, and commander of 9th Air and Space Expeditionary Task Force-Afghanistan, and other distinguished visitors taxis to a parking spot at Shindand Air Base, Afghanistan, before a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the full length of the runway, Dec. 20, 2010. The runway is now capable of supporting aircraft as large as the C-17 Globemaster III.
