DES MOINES, Iowa—U.S. Army Reserve Col. Louis Feliciano, commander of the Central Medical Area Readiness Support Group, entrusts Col. James Kerby, the new commander of the 7456th Medical Backfill Battalion based in Des Moines, with the battalion colors during a Change of Command Ceremony held on Saturday, June 10th. Outgoing commander, Col. Jerry Betzler, who has served as the 7456th commander since Sept. 12, 2015. The Change of Command ceremony symbolizes the continuation of leadership and unit identity despite the change in individual authority; it also represents the transfer of power from one individual to another. Passing the ceremonial flag from the old commander to the new commander physically represents this transfer. (Photo by Maj. A. Sean Taylor, U.S. Army Reserve)
