Joan Shields-Bennett poses with Navy leadership after a memorial service to honor her late husband, Navy Medal of Honor recipient Petty Officer 3rd Class Marvin G. Shields, on Veteran's Day at Gardiner Community Center cemetery. At Dong Xoai, Vietnam, Shields continued to supply fellow Americans with needed ammunition and returned enemy fire for hours although mortally wounded during an ambush. He died June 10, 1965.
