A replica Curtiss bi-plane, like the one flown by Eugene Ely 100 years ago, marking the birth of Naval Aviation, is parked in front of a F/A 18C Hornet at Chambers Field, Norfolk, Va. Nov 12, 2010. Ely flew his Curtiss Pusher bi-plane off the bow of USS Birmingham CL-2, Nov. 14, 1910 in the waters of Hampton Roads, Va. and landed on Willoughby Spit.
