PEARL HARBOR (May 5, 2017) Sailors and Marines man the rails as the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) departs Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit are returning to San Diego from a seven-month deployment to the U.S. 3rd, 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
