William J. Lynn III, the deputy secretary of defense, awards the Purple Heart Medal to Lance Cpl. Jackson Hsieh, a dog handler with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, during a visit to Nawa, Afghanistan, Oct. 28. Lynn visited Forward Operating Base Jaker and toured the surrounding area in Nawa to note progress by the Nawa Government and coalition forces. Hsieh, from Arcadia, Calif., sustained injuries from an improvised explosive device blast.
