Rct. Julissa Y. Seda, a 20-year-old Miami native, is currently in training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title United States Marine. Seda is training with Platoon 4016, Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate May 5, 2017. “I wanted to join the Marines because of the impact it had on me when I heard the Medal of Honor stories,” said Seda, who graduated from Barbara Goleman High School in 2014. “When I heard the stories, I had a warmth come over me, and it lead me to the Marines.” Approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 49 percent of male recruits and 100 percent of female recruits in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. Carlin Warren)
