PACIFIC OCEAN (April 18, 2017) Seaman Bryan Coyne, from Fuquay Varina, N.C., requests permission to assume the duties as the lee helmsman from Ens. Beau Allen, from Augusta, Ga., aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Shoup (DDG 86) while underway for a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group in preparation for an upcoming deployment. COMPTUEX tests the mission readiness of the strike group's assets through simulated real-world scenarios and their ability to perform as an integrated unit.
