SAN DIEGO (March 29, 2017) Fire Controlman 3rd Class Mark Coghlan, from Port Lucy, Fla., and Fire Controlman 2nd Class Jonah Brooks, from Virginia Beach, Va., conduct maintenance on the close-in weapons system (CIWS) aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Shoup (DDG 86) during a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group in preparation for an upcoming deployment. COMPTUEX tests the mission readiness of the strike group's assets through simulated real-world scenarios and their ability to perform as an integrated unit.
