Alfred Van Gieson, now Master Sgt., an air transportation specialist with 48th Aerial Port Squadron, 624th Regional Support Group, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, is a champion outrigger canoe paddler who learned the sport at the Leeward Kai Canoe Club, which was founded by his grandparents at Kalaianaole Beach Park in Nanakuli, Oahu, Hawaii.
