U.S. Marines with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion (CEB) split a tree for an abatis, an obstacle meant to impede enemy movement, during Mountain Training Exercise (MTX) 2-17 at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, Bridgeport, Calif., Mar. 15, 2017. 1st CEB completed the final exercise of MTX 2-17, a three-part cycle consisting of avalanche initiation, ice breaching, obstacle emplacement and tree cutting using explosives.
