Polish town honors fallen WWII airmen

A soldier from the Polish 17 Wielkopolska Mechanized Brigade lays flowers at the foot of a memorial to two U.S. Army Air Corps B-17 bomber crewmen who were killed in action during World War II, following a dedication ceremony in Mosina, Poland, on March 18, 2017. Tech. Sgt. Leonard A. Marino and Tech. Sgt. John L. Sunberg took fire from Russian fighter aircraft on March 18, 1945, after they’d bailed out of their bomber that had been crippled by flak during a bombing mission of railroad marshalling yards in Berlin. They are still considered Missing In Action since their remains were never recovered, however it is believed that Russian soldiers buried the airmen’s bodies in Mosina. (U.S. Army photo by Capt. Scott Walters, 3rd ABCT Public Affairs, 4th Inf. Div.)
