John Patterson, Commander, 183d Fighter Wing, gives the command to present arms, and the guidons are lowered, as the order is read to redesignate the unit as the 183d Wing, a name reflective of the unit’s diverse missions. The name change followed the Wing’s transition from a fighter unit to the next echelon in military aviation, which includes major engine repair and command and control of air operations.
