The Military Sealift Command maritime prepositioning ship USNS 2nd Lt. John P. Bobo is in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius in the Bay of Naples. John P. Bobo is named for U.S. Marine Corps 2nd Lt. John P. Bobo, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions as Weapons Platoon Commander, Company I, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, in Quang Tri province, Republic of Vietnam, March 30, 1967.
