DJIBOUTI (Dec. 14, 2016) U.S. Marine Cpl. Connor Lavender, a rifleman with Company B, Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), charges to an objective during a rehearsal for a squad maneuver under fire during Exercise Alligator Dagger, Dec. 14. As an extra element to the sustainment training for Alligator Dagger, each squad within Bravo Company’s platoon was scored for points toward a squad competition. Incorporating competitions provides each Marine with a challenge that aids in developing techniques and boosts moral among the fire teams and squads. The final scores will be determined when the Marines return to the USS Comstock (LSD 45). The unilateral exercise is designed to provide an opportunity for the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 11th MEU to train in amphibious operations within the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. The 11th MEU is currently supporting the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations’ mission to promote and maintain stability and security in the region. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. April L. Price)
