5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade and Combined Task Force 51 Commander, Brig. Gen. Francis Donovan, left, meets with Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa Deputy Commander, Rear Adm. William Wheeler during a visit to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Dec. 20, 2016. In addition to meeting with CJTF-HOA and CLDJ leadership, Donovan observed joint training at the Djibouti Range Complex in Arta, and meet with Sailors and Marines aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa is a multinational effort to conduct theater security cooperation, combat violent extremism and enable freedom of movement within East Africa in order to defend U.S. interests and support aligned regional efforts.
