Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Maj. Gen. Shinichi Aoki, the deputy chief of staff for JGSDF’s Western Army, addresses a gathering of U.S. and Japanese service members during the closing ceremony for a Yama Sakura 71, at Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 12, 2016. During YS 71, U.S. Marines and Sailors with 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade partnered with service members in JGSDF's Western Army to focus on bilateral planning, coordination, and interoperability to enhance the U.S.-Japan security alliance for continued peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
