U.S. Marines with 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade and service members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force conduct the opening ceremony for Yama Sakura 71, Dec. 7, 2016, in Okinawa, Japan. During this annual, bilateral exercise, members of the JGSDF and U.S. military exchange ideas, tactics, techniques, experiences, and culture. Specific Japanese units involved in YS 71 include the JGSDF Western Army, the Amphibious Ready Deployment Brigade and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Mine Warfare Force.
