A U.S. Army soldier in ACU (Army Combat Uniform) camouflage is speaking with a civilian emergency responder or fire department official wearing a dark navy uniform and cap. They appear to be coordinating at what looks like a demolition or disaster site, with rubble visible to the left and a red fire engine parked nearby. The setting suggests an inter-agency emergency response or training exercise.

More than 500 members of the California National Guard participated in the Vigilant Guard earthquake-response exercise Nov. 12-18, including the 40th Military Police Brigade Homeland Response Force, 9th Civil Support Team, 129th Rescue Wing and 146th Airlift Wing. They collaborated with hundreds of partners from the Nevada National Guard, Arizona National Guard, Army North, Los Angeles County Fire Department, California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, FEMA and a wide range of local organizations such as the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Irvine Police Department and the Orange County Community Emergency Response Team. It was a great example of interagency cooperation and preparedness for when disaster strikes. (U.S. Army NAtionla guard photo by Brandon Honig)
