Rct. Timothy W. Henry, a 18-year-old native of Sparta, Tenn., is currently in training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title United States Marine. Henry is training with Platoon 3098, India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Dec. 9, 2016. “I joined because I felt like this is what I was supposed to do,” said Henry, who graduated from White County High School in 2016. “I’m meant to be the one who, if it comes down to it, sacrifices myself instead of someone else.” Approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 49 percent of male recruits and 100 percent for female recruits in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Vanessa Austin)
