United States Army 1st Lt. Matthew Shand, Task Force Hurricane 1-124 Infantry Regiment, crawls under an obstacle during a 5K Tough Mudder, at a French military base in Djibouti, November 6, 2016. Shand was part of an 8-man team participating in the event consisting of French, American and Japanese teams. The TF Hurricane 1-124 IN team took first place for all international competitors. TF Hurricane, in partnership with their joint, interagency, intergovernmental, and multinational counterparts, secure regional operational sites; are prepared to respond to regional crisis; and are postured to execute Security Force Assistance (SFA), provide force protection, and provide support to regional counter-violent extremist organization operations in order to support aligned regional efforts, ensure regional access, and freedom of movement, and protect United States interests.
