U.S. Army Pfc. Fabio Saldanha, assigned to Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment engages a simulated target during a fire team exercise in Arta, Djibouti, Oct. 20, 2016. During the exercise, one team would provide cover fire while the other team advanced on a simulated target. The intent of the exercise was to teach soldiers how to move from inside a vehicle when in contact with the enemy, exit the vehicle, and then return fire effectively using live ammunition on simulated targets. Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa is a multinational effort to conduct theater security cooperation, combat violent extremism and enable freedom of movement within East Africa in order to defend U.S. interests and support aligned regional efforts.
