U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Matthew A. Long, a motor transport mechanic with Motor Transport Company, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, designed a device to place between a Marine and his small arms protective inset plate to provide self-aid when injured in Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 20, 2016. Long came up with a design to incorporate a blood clotting agent and pain killer to minimize the time between injury and aid as part of a Marine Corps wide logistical innovation competition. Long was selected as a winner after competing against more than 300 other Marines. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. William Hester)
