Maj. Paul Horlacher, the Task Force 2-12 Cavalry executive officer, inspects a piece of shrapnel found at the site of an improvised explosive device attack on a task force convoy earlier in the week. During Operation River Walk, the Horlachers unit, in cooperation with the 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, found nine significant weapons caches, detained 43 suspected anti-Iraqi insurgents and discovered several armed IEDs, which were destroyed by an exploded ordnance disposal team.
