A Jewish religious ceremony, likely a Shabbat service, is being conducted aboard a military vessel. Three uniformed naval personnel are gathered around a table with ritual items while a man in a white kittel (ceremonial robe) and kippah appears to be leading the service. The setting appears to be an interior compartment of a U.S. Navy ship.

PACIFIC OCEAN (Oct. 2, 2016) Lt. Josh Sherwin, a Navy chaplain, leads a discussion about personal achievements over the previous year during a Rosh Hashanah ceremony aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). Rosh Hashanah is a two-day celebration of the Jewish New Year that provides an opportunity to reflect on the past year and look ahead in the New Year. Sherwin, one of ten rabbis in the Navy, visited John C. Stennis at sea to provide religious services for the crew during the High Holy Days. John C. Stennis is underway conducting proficiency and sustainment training. (U.S. Navy photo by Seaman Oscar Quezada / Released)
