    Ensign Dan Laursen of the USS Lake Erie and his fellow junior officers from the U.S. Navy and Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) listen to the words of Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Gary Roughead, while attending the U.S. Navy-JMSDF Junior Officer Symposium held at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii on June 9, 2010. The Japanese junior officers are on a training mission in which they will visit 16 ports in 12 countries in a span of 156 days and Hawaii was their first stop on this trip. The symposium highlighted the bilateral alliance of the two countries.
