A remembrance ceremony was held in honor of National MIA/POW Recognition Day at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., Sept. 15-16, 2016. Congress has designated the
third Friday of September as a day to commemorate American prisoners of war and service members missing in action. The opening ceremony held prior to passing a
lit torch, included a guest speaker and opening remarks from the 509th Mission Support Group commander. Each squadron, along with several other Whiteman groups,
ran a portion of the 24-hour-long run.
