A horseback rider carries the U.S. Flag during the grand entry of the Pendleton Round-Up, Sept. 17, in Pendleton, Oregon. The Round-Up, which has occurred every year since 1910, held its Military Appreciation/Patriot Day, attended by Oregon Brig. Gen. Steven Beach, Assistant Adjutant General – Army, who said, "It is truly an honor and privilege to live in such a great country as the United States and in the great state of Oregon. Those of us in the military, and especially in the National Guard, feel it's our duty to be willing and ready to stand up and defend what so many great people have worked so hard, over so many long years, and with such great personal sacrifice to create."
