Hot spots can easily flare up and return into full blown fires. As part of the mopping-up process, Pfc. Yan Rhinebah, Task Force Blaze Fire Team 1, uses a Pulaski to chip off burning embers from smoldering log to extinguish. Rhinebah is one of 550 Soldiers deployed from Fort Lewis, Wash., to Northern Washington to assist the National Interagency Fire Center as they control wildfires that have consumed more than 128,000 acres of land.
