Corporal Donald L. Kirksey, a scout with Alpha Company, 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, places the helmet on the memorial stand during the memorial service, May 18, for Sgt. Frank J. A. World. World was killed, April 1, while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. World, from Buffalo, N.Y., is remembered by his fellow Marines as an noncommissioned officer who embodied what an NCO should be to the Marines around him. He could always uplift those around him, was a musician and above all a caring husband and father. Marines of 2nd LAR took time to remember their fallen comrade at the end of their five-month deployment.
