Lance Cpl. Christopher J. Gray, a rifleman with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, holds up his rifle with a bullet hole in the rifle combat optic. Gray's head was only six inches away from the insurgent's bullet when it punched a hole through the base of his RCO during a firefight, May 15. Gray suffered a minor shrapnel wound to his face and continued to fight during the engagement. Gray, 20, is from Warner Robins, Ga.
