MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII – Marines from the III Marine Expeditionary Force’s motor transport unit and Oshkosh Defense contractors pose for a group photo on Aug. 10, 2016, aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii. The motor transport Marines presented Oshkosh Defense contractors with certificates of appreciation for early completion of the Logistic Vehicle System Replacement project. The Oshkosh Defense team worked thousands of hours repurposing approximately 239 LVSRs from Okinawa and Hawaii. The project began in May 2015 and was scheduled to finish in late August 2016, but was finished 21 days ahead of schedule and saved the Marines roughly 28,000 man hours. Designed to further improve the reliability and survivability of the LSVRs – as well as the Marines driving them – upgrades to the vehicles included additional cabin space for communication equipment, an added towing attachment for safer transportation of materials, and superior front-facing lights.
