Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) Marines attend a vendor fair at the Mega Muster held in Washington, D.C., on August 20, 2016. During the vendor fair, IRR Marines had the opportunity to visit booths manned by employees of Marine Corps support programs, local D.C.-area employers, and educational institutions.
The Mega Muster was one of more than 20 separate muster events conducted across the nation in 2016 by Marine Corps Individual Reserve Support Activity (MCIRSA), an activity of Force Headquarters Group (FHG). MCIRSA executes muster events in communities across the United States in order to accomplish its primary mission of providing support to Headquarters, Marine Corps for the involuntary recall of the more than 65,000 Marines of the IRR. During these muster events, MCIRSA conducts an administrative screening of IRR Marines to ensure those Marines’ readiness to augment and reinforce the active component.
Over 850 IRR Marines attended the D.C. Mega Muster. During the event, the IRR Marines updated their personal and contact information; were administratively screened; attended a vendor fair with booths provided by numerous Marine Corps support programs, D.C. area employers, and educational institutions; and were briefed on the opportunities available to them in the Marine Corps Reserve.
