JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM (July 13, 2016) Regional Health Command-Pacific Emergency Manager and a lead medical planner for the Humanitarian Assistance - Disaster Relief (HA/DR) exercise, Thomas Bookman, briefs U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Caroline Kennedy, on the purpose and goal of the HA/DR exercise, which focused on enhancing disaster preparedness across U.S. and international partner government and private sector agencies. During the exercise, which took place on Ford Island in Hawaii, Kennedy also observed the partnership between Japanese Navy service members and U.S. partners who participated in the simulated mass-casualty event July 13. Twenty-six nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in Rim of the Pacific exercise from June 30 to Aug. 4, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California.
