Spc. Peter Beskales, from Tampa, Fla., with 382 United States Forces-Iraq commanding general's physical security detachment, wears the rank of staff sergeant as a squad leader for his team while he leads his squad in room clearing procedures in the Baath Party Palace, Baghdad, as he and his team participates in the United States Forces-Iraq "Spur Ride." Sixty-three Soldiers are mentally and physically pushed to their limits though a 16-hour event encompassing 12 rigorous stations that tested the Soldiers' abilities as they all attempt to join the Order of the Spur. Through teamwork forty-two of those Soldiers came together, passed the test and were accepted into the brotherhood of cavalrymen. On April 18, United States Forces-Iraq, Special Troops Battalion held a "Spur Ride" on Victory Base Compound to provide Soldiers an opportunity to participate in the Cavalry tradition and earn their golden spurs while deployed to Iraq.
