160705-N-RP435-002 SAN DIEGO (July 5, 2016) Rear Adm. Christian "Boris" Becker (center), Program Executive Officer, Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (PEO C4I), tours the assembly area for the Aegis Ashore Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) System that is slated for delivery to Poland in June 2017. Austin Speed (right), a contractor with the Navy’s Shore and Expeditionary Integration Program Office (PMW 790), explains rack installation and technical specifications for the system. The BMD system in Poland joins several Aegis destroyers and other BMD sites in Europe as part of the European Phased Adaptive Approach (EPAA). The EPAA is part of a U.S. defensive strategy to provide protection for U.S. forces and allies. The Missile Defense Agency is working with the Navy’s Ship Integration Program Office (PMW 760) and PMW 790, both part of PEO C4I, to acquire, assemble and deliver the Aegis Ashore system.
