Lance Cpl. Juan S. Peres assembles a lightweight water purification system, June 17, 2016, at Taurama Barracks, Papua New Guinea, as part of Task Force Koa Moana’s deployment in the Asia-Pacific. Peres, one of two water purification specialists with the task force, has the responsibility of ensuring the task force has potable water in every country they train in. Setting up the system is one of the first things that must be done when establishing camp at each country, often resulting in late nights for the “water dogs.” Peres, from San Bernardino, California, is a water purification specialist with Task Force Koa Moana, originally assigned to Support Company, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
