Japanese Col. Hideto Fukamizu, chief of the Japan Ground Self Defense Force’s Training and Exercise Section, presents Col. Scott Green, commanding officer of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, with a gift depicting Japan’s Mount Fuji as a token of appreciation and friendship between the JGSDF and the Spartan Brigade at the brigade’s headquarters on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska June 8, 2016. Fukamizu was instrumental in preparing JGSDF paratroopers for their participation in Exercise Arctic Aurora, a yearly bilateral training exercise involving elements of the Spartan Brigade and the JGSDF, which focuses on strengthening ties between the two by executing combined small unit airborne proficiency operations and basic small arms marksmanship.
