Three wreaths adorn the tiny British cemetery at Hatteras Island, North Carolina. They represent Canada, Great Britain and the United States with a small country flag on each wreath to honor their fallen sailors. If it were not for the Coast Guard maintaining this area in collaboration with North Carolina Maritime museums and personnel, the little-known event 74 years ago may have never been so greatly recognized, said Cdr. Ian Wood.
