Australian and U.S. colors are raised half-staff to begin the 74th Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea May 13, 2016, at the USS Peary Gun Memorial in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. The Battle of the Coral Sea was a series of naval and aerial engagements by the U.S. and Australia against Japan that occurred May 4-8, 1942, on the northeast coast of Australia. Community engagements and bilateral training taking place during Marine Rotational Force – Darwin show the U.S. Marine Corps and the Australian Defence Forces are committed to continuing their tradition of more than 100 years of global partnerships and security cooperation.
