MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif - Cpl. Kevin Monroe fires an M777 Howitzer during a Jane Wayne Day event at Camp Pendleton May 7, 2016. Monroe is an assistant gunner and Tumwater, Washington native with Battery E, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Jane Wayne Day is a family-oriented exercise offering families the opportunity to experience what Marines go through as they train. The event also gives Marines a chance to enjoy time with their spouses while presenting them with specific aspects of their job they may not have known before.
“It’s fun getting to see how the families react because you know they will probably never see this again unless they do another Jane Wayne day,” said Monroe. “Since we do this every day, it gets lost on us the impact of what we do and how crazy it looks to people outside of the Marine Corps. When you see the kids looking amazed and wanting to touch everything, you kind of realize how special the things Marines do are.” (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Demetrius Morgan/RELEASED)
