Army Reserve Sgt. Trent Skinner competes in the single block ice carving event at the 35th U.S. Army Culinary Arts Competition at Fort Lee, Va., March 7, 2010. Skinner's work was a little more difficult than most since he carved from the back of the block the face of a woman with flowing locks of hair, leaving the entire block intact. Using everything from power tools, chain saws and even a household iron, ice carvers create works of art from blocks of ice that weigh around 300 pounds each. Skinner, from Junction City, Kan., is assigned to the 645th Transportation Company, Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nev.
