    U.S. Air Force Tech Sgt. David Porshé, from Houston, covers his ears while standing inside the staging area during the Arabian Drag Racing League championship, near Doha, Qatar, Feb. 26. Drivers approached to perform burnouts for improved traction on the sticky concrete surface. Scents of searing rubber, burning methanol and spurts of nitrous oxide merged with thunderous rumbles from high-performance engines.
